The Find Out Podcast
The Problem With Debate Bros
The Find Out crew, along with guest David Pakman, breaks down the problem with “debate bro” culture and explains why viral online debates often have little to do with actually finding the truth. Long-form political debates may look like a search for facts, but David argues that they often reward whoever is more articulate, prepared, entertaining, or better at delivering memorable talking points. Without time to research claims and fact-check what was said, viewers are left deciding who “won” rather than what was actually true. The conversation also explores Jubilee-style debates, whether political debates actually change anyone’s mind, and why the algorithms that drive social media make thoughtful, evidence-based debate harder to watch.
@admin finally someone talks about this!! I've been thinking about this for a long time! These 'debates' piss me off, it's maddening.
It's obvious there are ulterior motives in these "debates", and I have yet to see one that is done in genuine good faith.
